Know the God of your father

1 chronicles 29:9
Know the God of your father: David’s exhortation to Solomon begins with the most important aspect – emphasizing a genuine commitment to a real relationship with the living God. David essentially told Solomon, “The secret of my success has been my relationship with God. You need to pursue the same relationship.”
Serve Him with a loyal heart and with a willing mind: David also exhorted Solomon to serve God with both his heart and mind. Some people are all heart and no mind in their service to God; others are all mind and no heart. Both of these are important to truly serve Him.

i. We notice that the command to know came before the command to serve. “If you know  God you potentially serve him even better because you catch his vision. failure in service is the loss of vision of God & distancing ourselves from Him.

 Right after the Savior appears on the American continent he warns people: 29  For verily, verily I say unto you, he that hath the spirit of  a contention  is not of me, but is of the  b devil , who is the father of contention, and he stirreth up the hearts of men to contend with anger, one with another. So if you want to be miserable... Call people ugly names, especially online. Bully on Twitter. Rush to judgement. Believe everything negative, racist, and 'phobic' on social media. What is the opposite of contention?  Charity. Real Judgement

In terms of judgment and the final judgment a better framework is discernment. Judgment is from the Greek word crino. A fuller richer definition would be discernment, differentiation, distinction. So when God first creates the Earth he divides the light and the dark and "judges it as good" that it is good that it is part of divine activity. Discerning between right and wrong is part of our divine mortal activity so we can progress and choose to want to do right. Elder uchtdorf talked about judgement in a very different way where he said the day of judgment will be a day of mercy and healing. In Corinthians Paul says Jesus Will judge us so he need not  condemn us. 1 Cor 11:31 For if we would be more (discerning with ourselves) , we should not be judged.    32 But when we are judged, we are (changed) of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.  Judgment is that process by which we are brought to recognize distinctions and how they have operated in our lives and
